ULIA Monthly Professional Engagement

ULIA Monthly Professional Engagement

The professional field of information services and management is one of the most dynamic and versatile. With the advancement of the digital era and the acceptance of its components in the marketplace, the information professionals must find themselves on their toes if they are to stay on top of their game. The knowledge and skillsets that one used to get their current job cannot be relied upon in entirety to uphold them for the future demands in the workplace.

It is on the above background that Uganda Library and Information Association (ULIA) is implementing the Monthly Professional Engagement series, an initiative of the executive leadership to equip members with soft and technical skillsets in a continuous manner as one of the approaches to fulfil the promise of “supporting members through their career journey” professionally and at a personal level.

The first engagement themed: Professionalism, integrity and stress management was coined to open members to the call for professionalism and the the need for resilience if one is to distinguish him/herself in the marketplace, while dealing with the demanding work environment. This was broken down into three sub-themes, each handled by avid and senior information professionals in position of influence both in the academia and the marketplace, who walked (and still walking in) the path that most members aspire to attain in their career development. The session was moderated by Mr. Ronald Izaruku

The three sub-themes distributed and presented upon are as follows;-

  • Crafting your CV and preparing for interview – by Dr. Prisca K.G. Tibenderana, PhD. (Chief University Librarian, Kampala International University)
  • Professionalism, work ethics and integrity – by Lillian Rose Ariso (Commissioner Records & Information Management, Ministry of Public Service – Uganda)
  • Pressure and stress management in the information workplace – by Prof. J.R. Ikoja Odongo (Vice Chancellor, Soroti University)

The webinar that was conducted via zoom attracted a total of 150 participants who registered and attended the two-and-a-half hours session. Participation was open and free to both current members in the ULIA Membership register and those who have not yet subscribed to the Association membership.

This is wonderful! I have personally enjoyed it. Each of the three presenters were well organized, had a very stable network and very knowledgeable in the subject matter they were allocated.

It was also honor to host my undergraduate research supervisor Prof. J.R. Ikoja Odongo. May the monthly frequency of these engagements be maintained.

Lastly my name is Ronald not Roland as misspelled 😀 .

    Thanks 🙏

      Greeting Ronald,
Thanks for ably wonderfully moderating the show/session. It was splendid – to say the least!

Again, thanks for taking time to read through the article (and therein spotted the misspelled name. It has since been corrected!). Please keep on the site for more news and updates on what’s ‘cooking’.

      Regards,
