Akiteng Alice Okure

Ms Alice Okure Akiteng is the University Librarian at Cavendish University Uganda a role she serves with great interest, dedication and passion. She holds a Bachelors in Library and Information Sciences obtained from Makerere University, Kampala, a Diploma in Computer Science from Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi; and a Masters in Information Systems from Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi.

Before joining Cavendish University Uganda, she served at Uganda Martyrs University as Assistant Librarian (August 2001- July 2008), moved to International Health Sciences University (now Clarke International University) as Senior Assistant Librarian (July 2008 – August 2014) after which she was promoted to Deputy University Librarian (August 2015 – July 2016). She held the position of Deputy University Librarian for one year and was appointed as University Librarian (IHSU) in August 2016 – February 2017). Having served in the above positions in IHSU from July 2008 – February 2017, she resigned and joined the CUU family in February 2017 to date.

Alice was appointed Assistant General Secretary for the Uganda Library and Information Association for the period 2021-2024. She also serves General Secretary in the Namagunga Old Girls Association for 2021-2022.

Among the libraries she has planned and actively participated in setting up are the Archbishop Kiwanuka Memorial Library, Victoria University Library, Virtual University of Uganda library and Gulu Vocational Training College that opened towards the end of 2017. Her philosophy statement is “Guiding others to become better”.
